I forgot to mention something...

There's a souvenir shop at the show filled with all kinds of stuff from exotic masks to t-shirts and toys. Some of the stuff is pretty pricey, but there's a discount available if you use an American Express card on purchases over $75.00. They offer a must-have program that's about 40 pages of wonderful pictures with descriptions of all of the characters and includes a page of stickers for the kids. It's available in a package with a CD of the wonderful music for $20.00, so it's easy to reach the $75.00.

I went to see a preview showing of Cirque du Soleil's OVO on Thursday evening, and it was spectacular! It's a non-stop thrill ride of acrobats, jugglers, trapeze artists, dancers and clowns accompanied by some fabulous music. Shows like this don't come to Minneapolis very often, so you don't want to miss this one. Kids and adults will thoroughly enjoy this new show by the famous Cirque du Soleil. Be sure to check out the discount coupon available to Twin Cities Staycation readers.

The show is presented under the Big Top in the north parking lot of The Mall of America, so it's easy to get to from anywhere in the area. And there's lots of good parking. I'll be writing a complete review soon, so stay tuned!

The StarTribune has been running a series of articles on drunk driving recently. You can find most of them on their website. One such article caught my eye today because it confirmed something I suspected: The majority of drivers (about 60%) involved in fatal collisions in Minnesota are first time offenders. Everybody rants about the repeat offenders who keep driving despite losing their licenses or getting jail time, but its time to put more emphasis on making it socially unacceptable for casual drinkers to get behind the wheel when they're impaired as well. Save yourself. Save your significant other. Save your friend. Listen when someone says you've had too much, and don't be afraid to tell someone else. And don't laugh off the joker who relates the story of his last binge. It stops being funny real fast when someone gets hurt or killed.

I usually pride myself on sensible winter driving, but I nearly got myself stuck coming home on Sunday evening. Actually, I did get stuck trying to drive a side street into our alley, but a neighbor took pity on me and pushed me out of the snow and back into the ruts so I could escape back to a Snow Emergency Route that was plowed. I knew I was taking a risk, but I was tired and anxious to get back home so I barreled into a barricade of snow where the city plow had passed when clearing the side street in the intersection. It's been 20 years since I was foolish about winter driving, and I swear it will be another 20 before I make that mistake again.

I have to go out again today. Here's hoping that my car hasn't been tagged or towed.
